Post a Comment. At his Dating God blog site , Brother Daniel Horan notes that while there’s a lot of talk about Vatican II, much of this talk is ill-informed, because it fails to focus on what the council actually said. Horan suspects and I think he’s right that many of those talking about Vatican II have not even read its documents, let alone studied them with care. Not everyone is identical in physical capacity and in mental and moral resources. But every type of discrimination affecting the fundamental rights of the person, whether social or cultural, on grounds of sex, race, color, class, language or religion, should be overcome and done away with, as contrary to the purpose of God. It is matter for deep regret that these basic personal rights are still not universally recognized and respected, as when women are denied the choice of a husband or a state of life, or opportunities for education and culture equal to those of men. Moreover, although there are just differences among individuals, the equal dignity of persons demands access to more human and equal conditions of life.

Francis testifies that “God revealed a form of greeting to me, telling me that a Living Prayer by Daniel P. Horan, OFM 26 Connecting the Gospel and had run a podcast himself based off one of his early books, Dating God.
It may not be surprising, then, that I had mixed feelings about the idea of spending 10 days in solitude secluded from the modern world in a hermitage. I am a Franciscan novice. Both of those words are open to misinterpretation, so let me clarify. I am a Franciscan friar, a member of the religious order of men founded by St. Francis of Assisi. As such I live following the Rule of St. Francis , which outlines a way of life modeled after the Gospel. A friar is neither a monk nor a secular cleric, but a man who lives in a community of brothers who profess to live with nothing of their own poverty , without marrying chastity and under the direction of their superiors obedience.

While the concept of having a relationship with God in human terms is not new, Br. Daniel Horan, OFM, has put a modern-day metaphorical spin on a time-honored theme. Saints and religious leaders throughout the ages have referred to God as a lover, friend and companion, said Br. Dan, who recently took solemn vows in Holy Name Province.
For example, St. Francis, looks at how a relationship with God is similar to a relationship with a lover, friend, or family member. Dan wrote the book to encourage people to pursue fulfilling relationships with God, and to realize that, like any relationship, getting closer to God will have its ups and downs. God can be right there when things are going wonderfully and, at other times, when things are going badly, or if a relationship is poor, God can seem far away.
He uses the example of Mother Teresa of Calcutta, who said she felt that God was absent from her life for something like 30 years.
